Indian governments and business have adopted extended producer responsibility

To solve the growing problem of E-waste – discarded electronics contain components that can't be safely thrown away with typical household trash — Indian governments and business have adopted extended producer responsibility. People threw away 2.5 million tons of cell phones, TVs, laptops, and printers in 2016, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Many governments have cooperated with businesses to provide the collection and recycling infrastructure that is required. Some claim that extended producer responsibility laws, which are supported by local governments and manufacturers, give manufacturers more responsibility for the reuse, recycling, and disposal of their own products.
