The leveling system is one of the most important elements in the New World. You can level your character, weapons and skills, but first, let’s go into the basics you’ll first see when making a new character in New World.
The most basic leveling system is your overall character level, which can be seen at the bottom of the HUD screen. You can earn XP from completing quests, killing enemies, and doing other actions that go toward your overall level. Once you hit a new level threshold, you can spend one Attribute point.
Dexterity: Increased weapon damage with ranged weapons
Strength: Increased melee weapon damage.
Intelligence: Your magic attack’s damage is increased.
Focus: Abilities’ cooldown is reduced and increases your mana.
Constitution: Grants you bonus health.
When you start playing your character, level 1 grants you 5 points in each of the attributes. At every next level, you will gain +1 attribute point. Taking this into consideration there are 71 total points to spend from leveling up. Each attribute has a soft cap when 60 points are reached, so it’s pointless to go above that.
Also, a part of the leveling system is the Trade Skill trees. Trade Skills are non-combat skills that can be leveled up just like your overall character. However, each skill needs to be leveled up separately through specific actions. The skills are Gathering, Refining, Crafting and each one has sub-skills that you can view below.
Gathering: Mining, Skinning, Logging, and Harvesting
Refining: Smelting, Stonecutting, Woodworking, Tanning, and Weaving
Crafting: Weaponsmithing, Armoring, Jewelcrafting, Engineering, Arcana, Cooking, and Furnishing
Players can invest in any number of Trade Skills and each will be useful in one aspect or another for both the player and other players they may trade with.
Finally, you can level up your weapons in New World. Weapon Mastery improves through the usage of a particular weapon and there are 38 skills to unlock for each weapon. Each time you kill a monster using a weapon, that weapon gains mastery XP. Over time you unlock up to 19 skill points as you level up the mastery. Abilities can be unlocked using these points. The last ability in each tree requires you to spend 10 points in previous tiers of the same tree, meaning you can only fully unlock one tree while still spending some points in the other.
There’s a ton of leveling to do in New World, so it’s unlikely players will get bored in Aeternum anytime soon after the game’s official launch of 31st August.
